"Reyansh."
"No Saisha," I answered before she could say anything. She laughed, "Dude, I was taking attendance." I realized and looked around. Ah, it was embarrassing.
Everyone laughed and I went back to my work. This woman was messing with my brain and it wasn't a nice thing. I knew what I had to do with my life, and losing my brains for somebody was not in the checklist.
I schooled my thoughts against the distraction and kept doing my work. Saisha always laughed at me when she saw me, the hurt visible in her eyes but her face trying to be deceiving. As much as you try being deceptive, your eyes were clearly visible to me.
Those black cat eyes tried hard to not show how hurt she was. I felt bad for hurting her, but she was the only competition I had and there can be no other emotions for her except for the hate. Call it blocking, call it madness, call me psycho.
Maybe I really was a psycho.
Today was the last day of the semester, and tomorrow our exams started. I was all prepared. Our Java exam was about to be taken for a hundred marks and it was exciting.
I am hurting you for your own good, Saisha. I spoke without words. She didn't deserve the rudeness, but that was the only way to make her realize I was not in love with her.
I was not in love with her, even if she was the only thing on my mind.
I was not in love with her, even if I kept checking if she was fine.
I was not in love with Saisha, even if her black cat eyes were captivating.
I finished the classes and went home. I made sure to not meet her in the exams, I could not afford any distraction in between my academic scores. I needed to score the best. I needed to be the best.
The last exam was Java, it was an online exam and everyone had to sit with their own batches. Something which was not a good thing for me. I entered the exam hall and the first face I saw was hers.
"All the best, Reyansh." She smiled at me again. Finding a seat for herself, she sat down and opened her laptop. I found a seat in another row, a little behind hers. I could see her bright wallpaper, this woman was too excited.
The exam started and everything else left my mind. I worked on my codes and finished the exam in thirty minutes. It was a 2 hour exam but the questions were all the ones I had practiced and I was already good at it. I asked if I could leave and they permitted me. I reached outside and gulped down some water.
"I will score a hundred." I heard the silvery voice shout excitedly. I narrowed my eyes as she came towards me. "You'll obviously score a hundred."
"We'll see," I nodded and she grinned to herself again. Didn't her cheek hurt sometimes? "You are walking till the bus stop?"
"No, flying." I rolled my eyes and she chuckled. "Dude you just tried sarcasm." She informed me and laughed again. Hey I know I was being sarcastic. God she needs help.
"Let's go." She didn't look like she was asking, so I walked behind her silently. She reached the bus stop and turned back at me. "Take care, see you at the Christmas party."
I am not going to the Christmas party. Now if she's going, definitely not. I reached home and sighed.
Saisha was crazy to be in love with me. And she was NOT in love with me. It was just an attraction because I helped her. Obviously.
Why am I just thinking about it!? I scolded myself and closed my eyes. It was time to sleep for a few days.
I love you, Reyansh.
I opened my eyes and paused. "What the fuck is wrong with me!"
"What the fuck is wrong with you, baby?" My eyes widened hearing mom. She chuckled and kept my clothes in the closet. "Nothing,"
"Are you sure? Your exams ended today." She asked again and I nodded. "Start smiling!"
"I don't like it." I answered and she shook her head. She switched off the light, "Sleep, you haven't slept well."
I hummed and tried sleeping again. But it was far away from my eyes.
.
New Year's. My revolution for the year never changed, score the best. Sleep a bit more was added. I was going to a New Year's party with my parents after I avoided the Christmas one. Why did I avoid the Christmas one, obviously.
I got ready in a casual dress and went outside. My parents smiled at me. "I'll drive, add the address to the GPS." I asserted and I went inside to get my watch. Mom and dad had settled on their seats as I sat on the driver's seat and started driving.
Why is this place near my college?
Wait, why is this place near Saisha's house?
I had successfully avoided Saisha for the whole break and our college opened in 2 days. It was just two days. I realized the party location was Saisha's house and looked at my parents questioningly. "Its Saisha's birthday, beta." Mom smiled as they got out. I closed my eyes, I remembered, but I didn't know they were taking me to her birthday.
God I want to avoid her. I need to stay away from her. She is a threat to my academic plans.
I followed my parents having no option and saw Saisha dolled up in a long evening dress. A square neck, slit at the waist and pearl earrings, she looked like a princess.
Black cat eyes. Beautiful, black cat eyes. Her eyeliner highlighting those alluring eyes, her lips glossed. It was a perfect day to torture me with that distraction. A charming distraction.
Mom told me to wish her and I nodded. Saisha saw us and came running towards us with her million dollar smile. "Happy birthday, Sash!" My parents chorused. "Happy birthday, Saisha." I added. "Thank you so much!"
"Shanaya!" I heard Shagun aunty run to my mom. She saw me and grinned. "Hello lovely."
"Happy New Year's aunty." I nodded and wished her. I touched her and uncle's feet after.
Saisha came towards me and smiled. "So, you couldn't avoid me for the whole holiday, lost the bet?"
"I will not lose a bet. This was a shocking turn of events." I answered flatly and avoided her eyes. "Everyone's got a gift here, what have you got for me?" She asked and I looked at her. "Mom- mom picked up something for you." I stammered and she laughed. Okay that was a whisper, but the rose scent was driving me mad today.
Rose. The most delicate flower. The most loved flower, just like her.
But I didn't like roses. I didn't like her either.
If that could help you. I shook my head at my conscience.
"The results come out tomorrow, excited?" She asked. "Saisha, don't talk to me. People might think we're friends."
"I am sure I am not your friend." She whispered and ran towards her father. Yeah. We were not friends.
Ouch. Were we really not even friends? Oh right, we were enemies. Academic rivals. Yes.
SAISHA
I had fallen in love with Reyansh. I had fallen in love with everything he did, because he was the best person I had known. A cold face with a very giant heart, this man had me fallen the day he chose to smile at me.
As much as I had heard from Shanaya aunty, he never smiled. He rarely smiled. I didn't know how much time he'd take to realize it, but I was all here. Always waiting for him. I hope he scores well in the result.
He had done everything to make me hate him after I told him about my feelings. He had been the rudest, had tried being indifferent, had ignored me in college and had avoided attending any common family event too. Little did he know, I was not in love with his actions, I was in love with his heart, and it was beautiful.

Saisha's heartfelt emotion, Reyansh's ignorance, who will win?
