1. Saisha

As much as I hate getting up early in the morning, getting late adds up to it.

National School of Technology, Agra. A place that I never expected I would ever go to, but that’s how life works. Who cares if I wished to go on a solo trip and then join college late? Oh, that’s not even technically possible, silly!

I was late, but really? No.

“Good morning bacche,” Mom passed me my apple as I ran outside. There was no way I was getting late. “Morning mom, bye!” I shouted. My college was not far from my house. It was a walking distance of around 5 minutes which I covered in a three by running.

9:57, ah survival. I rushed inside the class and found a seat, closely on the last bench. Today wasn’t a day to be late, on a serious note. But I didn’t plan on watching Netflix all night, did I? Two semesters in this college and it has been a bliss. The result had come out recently and I had taken the second rank. Delightful, isn’t it? I was not into a rank competition, but who doesn’t like academic validation?

Our batch was one of the most mischievous ones. There was no change done to our class as we came to the second year but there were still quite a few changes. Only the ones that didn’t matter. I waved at everyone as they came inside.

“Babe!” I heard a honeyed voice and I turned back. Jiya. I grinned and went towards her. “How were the holidays, sweetie?”

“Oh trust me, worse. I love the hostel man. When are we getting privacy in the Indian Household bro?” She fussed and I chuckled. “I am done with this, I am a day scholar!” I bragged and added, “I get good food with no privacy, everyday.”

Jiya was the first girl I met here and we instantly clicked. She was a beautiful girl inside out and had been here throughout the year. She was the only one who tolerated my idiotic ass and I can’t be more grateful to her. She squinted her eyes at me and sat down. I tapped her head and heard the gate open.

“Good morning, everyone,” A professor came inside and wished. “Good morning, ma’am.” Everyone wished.

“Welcome to the second year. I am very excited to work with you all.” She welcomed us and we smiled. “First things first, your time table has been uploaded on your student application and the subject teachers have been mentioned there. Please take note of that, whilst I am your class advisor as well as your Java professor, Shruti Sharma.” She introduced herself and I nodded.

She was really pretty, her hair was brown and her eyes shiny. Nothing bad about appreciating beauty, isn’t it? I smiled to myself and looked down.

Java professor, it’s going to be fun.

“Also, I heard that both the rankers of the college are in this class, can I know them?” She asked and I waited to stand. I wasn’t the first, and it was respectful enough to wait.

“Greetings, ma’am.” A smoother than silk voice spoke, and I gulped, following and getting up. “Morning, ma’am.” I wished too.

I had always been an extrovert, unless you knew what just being nice to everyone meant. I wasn’t a social maniac, but I had talked to every student in the class. Being the class representative in the first year was one of the reasons too. Everyone in the class was supportive and fun when it came to doing mass bunks and since there weren’t a lot of changes, we are looking forward to doing many this year too.

Everyone in the class liked me, but him.

Round frames. Cold face. Hazel eyes.

Reyansh Arora, the topper of the college. He was the one who scored 1% more than me and I didn’t mind that. But he hated it.

As much as I had heard, he lived and breathed academic validation. He had scored more than 5% in the first semester and hated the fact that the score difference decreased. Well, it was a normal thing, it’s not like I overpassed. Boy what? Do you want to get more than 100% now?

He was usually found sitting on the corner last bench and studying. He didn’t have friends in the class and he thought nobody noticed him. I wish I didn’t, but I couldn't help it. As much as cold he was, his looks could burn. The way he stared at me, the only thing I had in me was a clench in my stomach.

I thought this semester would go smoothly, but is Saisha Jha’s life smooth? That’s a ‘joke of the century’

“Morning, I’d be glad if you could introduce yourself.” Shruti ma’am asked and he looked at me. Okay that was a sign to go first. “I am Saisha Jha and I scored a 9.6 overall CGPA in the first year. I am from the city itself.” I nodded at the end and she smiled at me.

“Interesting,” She seconded and Reyansh looked up. His lips didn’t curl even a bit as he spoke, “I am Reyansh Arora. I scored a 9.7 overall CGPA. I am from the city too.” His discerned look, plastered on his face. Did this guy ever smile?

“Alright, that’s a very tough competition young people. It’ll be fun this year, I guess.” She remarked and we sat down. “I’m not going to start teaching today, obviously, why don’t we listen to everyone else’s introduction too.”

Everyone cheered and the whole lecture was just the introduction of everyone, the names I knew already. I hope this year goes perfect. I hope everything goes fine.
